We rejoice in God’s love for us in part through music. We are truly blessed with wonderful music during our Sunday services, as well as through our many music programs for young and old.
Karen Levan has served as Director of Music and Organist at Avon Congregational Church since 2018. Our church offers numerous opportunities for participation in and enjoyment of music, for both adults and children.
Music binds people in significant ways. Making music is an especially meaningful way to worship God. Does your heart sing even before your mouth makes a sound? Do you seek relationship with those who love making music as much as you do?? Join us!
Our choirs rehearse weekly on most Wednesday evenings (September thru June) and sing/play just about every Sunday. There are also opportunities for the choirs to sing/play for special worship services like Easter, Christmas and Music Sunday.
Opportunities abound for instrumentalists and soloists too. Questions about our choirs, including interest in joining any choir, should be directed to Karen Levan, Director of Music and Organist.
Gallery Singers Choir – Singing from a rich repertoire of sacred music, this choir is comprised of women and men who have interest in singing in two, three and four-part music. We sing an eclectic mix including hymns, spirituals, global songs, and contemplative music.
Handbell Choir – Using our church’s five octaves of hand bells, this choir is open to adults and youth who have interest in, or can already read some music and understand musical rhythm. Handbell ringing is a fun way to make music in a group, especially for those people who don’t consider themselves ‘singers.’
Folk Music Ensemble – Music that originates in traditional popular culture can often be termed, folk music. From time to time, a small ensemble of willing singers comes together in voice and instrument to augment worship with a more contemporary sound. Ever wanted to sing The Beatles or a Simon and Garfunkel hit? Now’s your chance!
Soul Sisters Choir – On Mother’s Day and a few times throughout the year, a camaraderie of women (friends, mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers) young and old come together to raise their voices in song. This is sisterhood of the highest order!
Children’s Choir – Just as we mature in faith through learning prayer, meditation and reflection, our children learn to know God in special ways with use of their voices and bodies. Throughout the year, all children are invited to learn songs to sing in worship, during the Christmas Pageant and even to teach us on Children’s Sunday.
