Showing of Elixir d’Amore

Elixir d’Amore, a comic opera by Gaetano Donizetti. The year is 1836. Nemorino, a young and poor villager is in love with the beautiful farm owner’s daughter Adina. He tries to have her attention though he assumes that she is well beyond his reach. As the workers assemble in the village square, Sargeant Belcore arrives with his regiment. He eyes Adina, falls in love with her immediately and asks her in marriage. Nemorino hears the proposal and fears that he will lose Adina forever. He purchases and drinks a love potion peddled by Dr. Dulcamara, a charlatan who arrives in town. The ensuing story is a complex one between the two contenders who compete for Adina’s love.
