Avon Congregational Church is part of the United Church of Christ (“UCC”), a denomination with a rich history. Formed in 1957 from the merger of four earlier denominations, it is a “united and uniting church.” Committed to social justice and to sound theology, each local congregation is autonomous. Although connected to a larger body, we are free of restrictive and limiting ties, thus able to govern ourselves as we see fit. At the same time, we are keenly aware of the how we are bound together with all churches and with the world. Therefore everything we do is done with consideration of the welfare of the entire global community, and with a strong sense of our responsibility to care for all of God’s creation.
